Swimming is fun with constant practice! The school holidays are here! It is a great opportunity for children to go for more frequent swimming lessons to enjoy water fun in a safe manner! MoovSwim conducted a children swimming lesson on Friday morning for V and D. Since the last time we wrote about them, progress has been made! The children have been honing their freestyle and breaststroke. They are refining their coordination of breath control, as well as arm and leg movement. They are keen to learn and are willing to try, which allows progress to take place more readily! The […]

Progress happens with consistent swimming practice! MoovSwim had a children swimming lesson last Monday afternoon with sisters N and YH at Haig162. We last wrote about the sisters about 5 months ago, and there has been much progress! For almost a year, the sisters had progressed from not wanting to put their faces in the water to learning all four strokes! The sisters are now able to swim without any aid, which is a great improvement from where they had first started out back in January! They have learnt all four swimming strokes – the freestyle, breast stroke, butterfly and backstroke, and are […]

Swimming helps children start smart Professor Robyn Jorgensen, lead researcher for the findings of “Early Years Swimming, Adding Capital to Young Australians”, was invited to the Nordic Baby Swim Conference to share the results of this four year long project. It was funded and initiated by Laurie Lawrence’s Kids Alive Swim Program, together with Swim Australia and the Griffith Institute for Educational Research. Children who swim demonstrate more advanced cognitive and physical abilities than other children. “While we expected the children to show better physical development and perhaps be more confident through swimming, the results in literacy and numeracy really shocked […]

Attending swimming lessons consistently allows progress to take place! K and E have their weekly children swimming lesson with MoovSwim every Sunday afternoon, and it is wonderful to observe how much they have grown and improved over the past few months! The last time we wrote about them, they were still learning to gain more confidence and being more comfortable with placing their faces in the water. Now, the children have grown in both their water confidence and swimming ability, especially E who was initially resistant towards learning. The children have been working on their paddling and kicking, and they are able […]

Nordic Baby Swim Conference 2016 From 4th to 6th November 2016, MoovSwim headed to Stockholm, Sweden, for the biannually held Nordic Baby Swim Conference! There were swim instructors and swim schools from all over the world who participated. Speakers from the US, Australia, Sweden, Denmark and Mexico came to share their findings and practices. It was informative and interactive, and certainly insightful. I will be sharing some of the insights I have gained from the conference in the upcoming posts. This first post is on special needs by Erin Seal Grande. Swimming is fun when brothers swim together! On Sunday afternoon, MoovSwim conducted a children swimming lesson for twin brothers A and D! These two four year olds are not afraid of the water and couldn’t wait for their lesson to begin! The boys have been with MoovSwim for over a month, and they have improved in their kicking and breath control. The twins have been learning to paddle with the help of dumbbells and noodles, and they are confident in doing torpedoes. Learning to do the torpedo is an important step to learning swim strokes, as children need to be […]

Swimming lessons are fun with friends! On Sunday morning, MoovSwim had a wonderful children swimming lesson with JQ, S, C and R! The children have been learning for some time, and with each lesson, each child gains more water confidence and is able to kick confidently now! Coach began the lesson with a warm up exercise to get the children to practise kicking together. This promotes team work and encourages the children to have a splashing good time!  The children then took turns to practise their kicking and paddling with different teaching aids, such as the dumbbells, the noodles and boards. […]

Swimming lessons are essential to having fun in the water safely! The last time we updated on K was a couple of months ago, and K continues to enjoy water safely with Teacher Yong! K’s water confidence has been building up and he thoroughly enjoys his swimming lessons. Each time he arrives at the swimming pool on days that aren’t lesson days, he would associate the pool with Teacher Yong! K enjoys placing his face in the water and submerging with the help of Teacher Yong. He looks forward to every swimming lesson and listens attentively to instructions. He continues […]

Practising swimming strokes makes perfect! It’s been about a couple of months since we last updated about O and A, and they have made much progress! The girls had their swimming lesson on a weekday during the September school holidays, and they are becoming more competent. Both girls are growing in water confidence, and they enjoy practising their strokes. They have learnt the freestyle and breast strokes, and are working to perfect their arm movements. During swimming lessons, Teacher Yong uses a variety of tools to engage and enable the children to learn swimming effectively. The girls used the dumbbells […]

Swimming lessons are a wonderful way to enjoy water safely! MoovSwim had a great children swimming lesson with twins J and L, as well as our new addition LA a few Sundays ago! Our last update on the twins at Haig was some time ago, and since then, much progress has been observed! The children did a few warm up exercises practising their paddling and kicking, with and without the aid of noodles. Teacher Yong went on to correct their freestyle strokes, giving personalized attention and time to each child. The children practised their strokes with the help of the dumbbells, […]
