Why does my child need to join a swimming class?

One of the most commonly asked question is if there is a real need for children to enrol in a swimming class. Can I, as a parent, teach my child swimming?
The answer? Yes, of course! However, your child will be missing the social aspect of joining a swimming class with other children. There will be times when your child refuses to cooperate or participate – be it throwing tantrums, having a meltdown, or simply refusing to do anything. This is when the other children come into the picture to show your child, “Hey it’s ok. We are having FUN!” without needing you to say or do anything. Let the presence of the other children ease the atmosphere. Of course, this may not work if your child is hungry or tired.
Besides that, your child may come to a bottleneck in terms of learning. There may be little or no motivation to learn swimming by oneself. Fun is important in learning, but having pure fun with no structured learning of aquatic skills is not recommended.
