Swimming is an excellent way to start a wonderful Saturday!
On Saturday morning, MoovSwim had a swimming lesson with S and C, and the children had a lot of fun splashing around and being in the water! Both S and C just begin their swimming lessons together. S is more comfortable in the water and thus attends the lesson on her own, while C’s daddy accompanies C in building his water confidence together.
The main objectives of the lesson were to inculcate water safety and build water confidence. Learning to enter and exit the water in a safe manner is crucial to enjoying water eventually, and thus a lot of emphasis is placed initially until the children are able to do this on their own. Entering and exiting the water requires practice, and S and C spent some time stretching out their arms to reach for the shoulders of daddy and teacher yong.
An important prelude to swimming effectively is learning how to push off the walls of the pool. This enables the children to possess the initial momentum to move in the water on their own, especially when they begin to learn swimming strokes.
A common misconception is that floating is an innate ability. In reality, many children and even adults find floating a little difficult. Thus, noodles are used to support the child’s body to assist in the horziontal submersion. S practises her kicking with the help of the noodles, stretching out her arms with the help of the dumbbell.
C practises kicking with the help of daddy supporting his thighs and holding onto daddy’s shoulders at the same time. S and C also did some basic paddling with the help of the noodles.
Looking forward to another swimming lesson with the kids!
